🧠 Did You Know?
The 1985 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe marked Ford’s move toward European-influenced, turbocharged performance in the mid-1980s. Instead of a V8, it used Ford’s 2.3L turbocharged inline-four, producing 155 horsepower with the 5-speed manual—the strongest configuration available that year. The Turbo Coupe also featured sport-tuned suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, 15-inch performance wheels, and functional hood vents, making it one of the most advanced Thunderbirds of its era. Built on the aerodynamic “Aero Bird” redesign introduced in 1983, the 1985 model helped set the stage for the high-performance Turbo Coupes of 1987–88, which later became icons in Ford’s turbocharged lineup.
