Maintenance & Vehicle History
The Camaro was built as a dual-purpose street and race-style car and has been modified extensively from its original configuration, with more than $60,000 being invested. The 396ci Big-Block is from a 1968 Chevelle, and the Automatic transmission is reported to have positive shifts consistent with a shift kit. The car starts readily and drives well and handles better than expected despite the large rear tires and aggressive setup. The gauges are reported to function, along with the turn signals. The original air conditioning is no longer functioning. The battery was moved back to the front for easier access. This Camaro sits somewhere between a street machine and a race car, and that's exactly what makes the build interesting. The narrowed rear, tubs, massive rear tires, fuel cell, roll bar and five-point harnesses give it a serious competition-inspired presence, while the power steering, front disc brakes and reported road manners keep it from being completely uncompromising. The seller describes the car as having considerably more power than its specifications reveal, and after driving it, reports that it was much more composed and enjoyable on the road than expected. For someone looking for an aggressively built second-generation Camaro with a Big-Block, a serious stance and plenty of custom hardware already in place, this Z28 offers a very different take on the familiar platform. This Camaro has a clean Arizona title and is not street legal in California because it will not pass the state's smog requirements. This pro-touring style ride is located in Laguna, California.
❤️ From the Seller
“Very cool 1980 Chevrolet Camaro. This is I would call a pro touring car. Theoretically street legal, not in California. won't pass smog, but in most states, I believe it will be street legal. It's been configured into what it's called Proouring. It has huge rear tires, narrowed rear axle, tubbed interior, meaning extra clearance given in the by the bodyworks. There's clearance inside for those humongous tires. It actually runs and drives respectably. It's a automatic transmission. It's equipped with a 396 big block. So that's why it's not legal smog legal in California. So it has all kinds of performance modifications. I don't have the specs on it, but it's been really, really upgraded. Has more than enough power to put it lightly. Originally it was equipped with air conditioning, but it's no longer functioning. Big aluminum radiator, has power steering, power disc brakes on the front. and is quite a treat. It has an unbelievable stance. I don't know if we got photos from the back, but the stance of this car is just over the top. Yeah, the key. So has a fuel cell in back and it has filters. This is a aftermarket fuel cell. Plumbing is all the braided steel. Has the specifications on what you need for a fuel filter. Big old honkin' tires and wheels. Body's in really, really nice shape. It's obviously been repainted, but that is the original color. Just a super cool car. So, hop in. Before you do, I'll show you. It's got the fivepoint racing harness and it's got a roll bar. It did have the battery in back, but we put it back in front. It's just easier. Has power windows. So, hop in. We'll go for a quick drive. Pretty straight stock interior. Other the dash has been modified with tachometer. Excuse me. That's a speedometer. Ithas this auxiliary panel here. This is for start and this is for the extra fan on the radiator. So, it's a manual choke. Pull that out if you need to choke it. So, you turn it on, then you can hear a fuel pump, and then you hit the start. Fires right up. And we'll go for a ride. It It drives really quite well, believe it or not. Turn signals work. So, it has a feels like it has a shift kit in it, which means the shifts are more positive. for better performance. Goes down the road well considering it has humongous rear tires and smaller front tires. But it's this is the first time I've driven this at any speed. And to be honest with you, it's a way way lot better than I expected. It drives really pretty good. I'm going to turn the fan on. So that's the fan for the radiator. So I believe all the gauges work. Fuel gauge, volts. oil pressure, I believe, engine temp. It's a tilt wheel. actually drives nice, way nicer than I expected. It's quite docile, but I can tell you this thing has gobs of horsepower. And so this is a street legal kind of they call them pro touring. It has a race look. It's it rides that ragged edge between street legal and race car. has the roll cage, fivepoint harnesses, the little narrow rear end. Consignor is an older gentleman. He got this car and is frankly just too much for him. And so we really don't have all the particulars on the specifications, but the price that we're offering this at you you couldn't buy the motor and the drive line for what we're asking. So it's it comes with a clean Arizona title. It's not legal for roads roads use in California because it won't pass smog.”

The 1980 Camaro Z28 was the performance model of Chevrolet’s second-generation F-body in its next-to-last year. Chevrolet built 45,137 of them. Base price was about $7,121.Non-California cars got the LM1 350 V8 (190 hp, 280 lb-ft), the strongest Camaro engine since 1974, available with a four-speed manual or three-speed automatic. California cars were limited to a 165-hp 305 V8 and automatic only. This was the last year a buyer could pair the 350 with a four-speed.A contemporary test of a 350 four-speed car ran 0-60 in 8.5 seconds and the quarter-mile in 16.4 seconds at 86 mph. Handling was the car’s stronger suit thanks to firmer springs, thicker sway bars, and P225/70R-15 tires. The 1980 Z28 added a functional “Air Induction” hood scoop with solenoid-operated flaps that opened at wide-open throttle, a unique grille, rear-wheel flares, and updated graphics. A front air dam and rear spoiler were standard. Optional T-tops were common. It remains a recognizable collector car, especially original 350 four-speed examples. Typical issues are rust in the usual second-gen spots and faded original paint or decals.
