The 1974 Dodge Dart Swinger is an A-body two-door hardtop on a 111-inch wheelbase, a formal-roof compact sitting above the shorter-wheelbase Dart Sport coupe. Five-mph bumpers made the 111-inch cars about 200–203 inches long. Engines were the 198 or 225 Slant-Six, a 318 V-8 rated at 150 hp SAE net, and an optional 360 V-8. Most Swingers used Chrysler’s TorqueFlite three-speed automatic; a three-speed manual was still offered. The layout was rear-wheel drive with torsion-bar front suspension, leaf springs in the rear, and optional front disc brakes. 1974 also brought combined lap-and-shoulder belts and the one-year seat-belt ignition interlock. Base MSRP was about $2,842 for the Swinger Special and $3,001 for the Swinger hardtop before destination and options. Typical survivors and modest V-8 cars now sell from a few thousand dollars into the mid-teens, with rust and originality driving the spread.
