Maintenance & Vehicle History
According to the Marti Report, this Cougar is one of only 110 produced with the S-Code 390ci V8 engine and 4-Speed Manual transmission combination. It is also one of 1,567 XR-7 coupes equipped with a Traction-Lok differential, one of 3,744 equipped with power windows, and one of 761 delivered to the Seattle DSO. The vehicle is documented with actual mileage, showing 63,965 miles on the odometer. The title reflects 69,346 actual miles due to a previous mileage reporting error in which two numbers were transposed. The vehicle recently completed a drive of more than one hour without issue and is ready for continued use and enjoyment by its next owner. This rare Mercry muscle is located in Tampa, Florida.
❤️ From the seller:
“This car was built for speed with the 390 under the hood, a 4-speed wide ratio behind it, and the 3.25 Traction-Lok out back. This is not your grandfather's loaded up luxury Mercury! The exterior is painted a striking Vibrant Yellow with Saddle vinyl roof and Cragar SS wheels, for a classic muscle car look. It also has a rear spoiler and sport mirrors to finish it off. The Cougar is the sister car to the Ford Mustang but has some features that just about everyone can agree are an improvement. This one has heavy duty suspension, hide-away headlights, and sequential taillights! Pop the door and you will be delighted to find Saddle bucket seats, a center console, XR7 embroidered floor mats, and power windows! Under the hood is clean and shows well with chrome valve covers and air cleaner. This Cougar is also Actual documented miles on the title. The title does have an error in the reported mileage as the owner went from memory on the odometer reading and swapped 2 numbers. The title shows 69,346 Actual Miles, which the odometer is at 63,965. It just made a drive of a little over 1 hour to get to our showroom, without issue. It is ready for a new home and a proud new owner to show off this piece of automotive and classic muscle car history!”
🧠 Did you know?
The 1969 Mercury Cougar XR-7 was positioned as a more sophisticated and luxurious alternative to the Ford Mustang, combining muscle-car performance with a level of refinement rarely found in the pony car segment. A lesser-known detail is that 1969 brought a significant redesign, increasing the Cougar’s wheelbase and overall length while introducing hidden headlights and a more formal, upscale appearance that helped distinguish it from its Ford sibling. Even more fascinating, the XR-7 package transformed the Cougar into a near-personal luxury car, featuring woodgrain interior trim, full instrumentation, and premium appointments that were uncommon in most performance-oriented coupes of the era. With available big-block power and an upscale cabin wrapped in distinctive styling, the 1969 XR-7 helped create the blueprint for the luxury-performance coupes that would become increasingly popular throughout the 1970s.
