Maintenance & Vehicle History
This Camaro has been highly restored and is accompanied by its original Window Sticker and Protect-O-Plate. The restoration and subsequent upkeep have resulted in a very clean presentation, with the trunk, floors and underside all described as exceptionally clean. The Daytona Yellow paint has excellent shine and overall presentation, although there is a minor chip and scratch near the passenger-side spoiler area. The car is reported to run and drive great. The odometer shows 25,768 miles, with no claim made here regarding whether that figure represents actual total vehicle mileage. The drivetrain has been upgraded from its original configuration with a Performance engine and 200R4 automatic overdrive transmission. A 12-bolt rear axle with 3.73 gearing puts the power to the pavement, while power front disc brakes and air conditioning add useful street equipment. The 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS was the second-year version of Chevrolet’s first-generation Super Sport Camaro and was available as both a coupe and convertible. The SS could be ordered with Chevrolet’s 350-cubic-inch V8 rated at 295 horsepower or several versions of the big-block 396, including the 325-hp L35, 350-hp L34, and 375-hp L78. The L78 could also be ordered with the L89 aluminum-cylinder-head option, making it one of the highest-performance factory Camaros of the year. The 1968 Camaro also introduced Astro Ventilation, replacing the previous vent windows, while federally required side-marker lights were added to the body. Chevrolet built 235,147 Camaros in 1968, including 7,199 Z/28s; the Z/28 remained coupe-only, while the SS was available as a convertible.
