The 1965 Pontiac GTO Convertible was the second model year of the GTO and helped establish the nameplate as one of the defining muscle cars of the 1960s. Originally introduced as an option package on the Pontiac Tempest and LeMans, the GTO combined a 389-cubic-inch V8 with a sportier suspension, dual exhaust, and distinctive styling. For 1965, the standard 389 was rated at 335 horsepower, while the available Tri-Power setup raised output to 360 horsepower. The GTO could be ordered with a three-speed manual, four-speed manual, or two-speed automatic transmission. The convertible was one of three GTO body styles offered in 1965, alongside the Sport Coupe and 2-Door Hardtop.
