Maintenance & Vehicle History
This Thunderbird has been with the same Owner for 28 years and has been garage kept. The 390ci V8 was rebuilt approximately 10 years ago and has accumulated very few miles since the rebuild. The car was also recently serviced and is described as ready to be enjoyed. The custom paint was completed approximately 10 years ago. The odometer shows 14,109 miles, with no claim made regarding whether that figure represents actual total vehicle mileage. The custom work gives this Thunderbird a dramatically different identity from a stock 1965 model. The approximately 4.5-inch roof chop lowers the profile, while the Bonneville taillights, modified bumper, custom grille, air-scoop hood and lake-style side pipes create a distinctly period-custom appearance. The unusual “465T” insignia and “Experimental ’65 Thunderbird” identification add another layer to the car's individual presentation. With its chopped roof, Cobalt Blue paint, White interior, 390 V8 and extensive custom bodywork, this is a Thunderbird built around a very specific vision. Nearly three decades with the same owner adds another chapter to a car that was clearly never intended to blend into the crowd. Located in Ocoee, Florida.
❤️ From the Seller
“This 1965 Ford Thunderbird is a truly one-of-a-kind custom build, blending classic Thunderbird luxury with extensive period-inspired modifications and a look you won’t find on another car. The Thunderbird has been with the same owner for 28 years and has been garage kept. Under the hood is the legendary 390 V8 paired with an automatic transmission. The engine was rebuilt approximately 10 years ago and has accumulated very few miles since. The car was also recently serviced and is ready to be enjoyed. What really separates this Thunderbird from the crowd is the custom bodywork. The roof has been chopped approximately 4.5 inches, dramatically lowering the profile and giving the car an unmistakable custom stance. It features 1959 Pontiac Bonneville taillights, a modified rear bumper, custom grille, air-scoop hood, dummy spotlights, lake-style side pipes, wire wheels, wide whitewall tires, and custom paint completed approximately 10 years ago. Inside, the Thunderbird continues the custom theme with a white vinyl interior, bucket seats, and Ford’s distinctive Swing-Away steering column. The car also carries unique “465T” insignia and “Experimental ’65 Thunderbird” identification, adding another unusual detail to an already remarkable custom Thunderbird. This is far from an ordinary 1965 Thunderbird. With its chopped roof, Bonneville taillights, custom bodywork, 390 V8, and nearly three decades of ownership, it has the presence of a true old-school custom and conversation piece. A distinctive Thunderbird for someone looking for something that simply won’t be parked next to another one at the local show.”
🧠 Did you know?
The 1965 Ford Thunderbird was the second year of the fourth-generation Thunderbird and introduced several important new features, including standard front disc brakes and sequential rear turn signals that flashed the three taillight sections from the inside outward. Power came from Ford’s 390-cubic-inch V8, rated at 300 horsepower, paired with a three-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. The Thunderbird retained its distinctive 113.2-inch wheelbase and was offered as a hardtop, Landau, or convertible, with only 6,846 convertibles produced out of 74,972 total Thunderbirds for 1965. The year also marked the introduction of the Special Landau, distinguished by unique color and interior combinations.
