Maintenance & Vehicle History
This Willys pickup was originally used as a farm truck before receiving its drivetrain conversion in 1986, when a 302 V8 engine and Automatic transmission were installed. The vehicle retains its original 4x4 system and has been maintained as a driver-quality custom since its restoration in the late 1980s. The exterior features an older single-stage repaint with typical chips and wear consistent with use, there is also minor chrome loss on bumper, while the body remains solid with no major rust concerns noted. The interior has been redone and presents well, and the truck is described as running and driving well with good power from the V8 upgrade. This neat, old classic is located in Brookings, SD.

❤️ From the Seller
"Willys pickup four-wheel drive with a 302 automatic added. Bumper is in good shape, with a little bit of chrome loss in one area. The paint is an older single-stage finish, so while it still has a decent shine, it is not basecoat/clearcoat. It’s a neat old truck and an older restoration, so you’ll see a chip here and there, but overall it’s a cool driver. The interior has been redone and shows well with no real issues. When they swapped in the automatic transmission, they added a small center console. It’s a typical Willys setup and everything shuts as it should. There are a few rock chips from normal use, but there is no rust that stands out. The bed has a mat installed, and the underside of the steel bed has been documented. Overall it’s a very solid truck. Instead of the original four-cylinder that limited these trucks to around 45 mph, this one has been upgraded to a 302 V8 , which makes it much more usable on the road. It’s a driver-quality Willys, but a very cool one that you can actually enjoy driving anywhere."

🧠 Did you know?
The 1962 Willys Jeep Pickup was part of the long-running Willys 4x4 truck line that had been in production since 1947 and was built during the final years before Jeep transitioned fully under Kaiser Jeep branding. By 1962, the pickup was still fundamentally based on the original rugged body-on-frame design with a 1-ton rating, ladder-type chassis, and available 4-wheel drive system, making it one of the simplest and most durable American trucks of its era. Power was typically provided by the 226 cubic-inch “Super Hurricane” inline-six or, in some applications around this period, the newer 230 cubic-inch “Tornado” overhead-cam six, both paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. Styling remained utilitarian with only minor updates over time, including changes to grille design and trim, while the basic cab and bed layout stayed largely unchanged. Despite its dated engineering compared to newer competitors in the early 1960s, the Willys pickup was valued for its low-range off-road capability and mechanical simplicity, especially in rural, agricultural, and industrial use cases.
