Maintenance & Vehicle History
California Custom Coach built this Auburn replica using original Auburn jigs, and the vehicle is built on a Lincoln Town Car chassis. Recent work over the past few years includes body and paint, new convertible top, tires, alignment, brake system service, engine top end rebuild, remanufactured radiator, new front springs, replacement wire wheels, throttle and kickdown cables, timing chain cover, water pump and installation of an electric fan. The exterior was painted in May of 2022 and is describe to look phenomenal. The vehicle is described as running, driving, steering, and braking excellent, with smooth shifting from the C6 Automatic transmission and strong acceleration from the 460 V8. This Auburn Replica is located in Palmetto, FL.
🧠Did you know?
In 1936, the Auburn Model 867 Boattail Speedster stood as one of the most breathtaking examples of Depression-era automotive artistry, with its dramatically tapered rear deck, long sculpted hood, pontoon fenders, and a low, raked windshield that gave it an impossibly sleek, aerodynamic profile years ahead of its time. While the supercharged 852 Speedster often steals the spotlight with its 150-horsepower Lycoming straight-eight and guaranteed 100 mph capability (complete with a dash plaque signed by racer Ab Jenkins), the naturally aspirated Model 867 offered a more accessible yet still thrilling version of the same stunning boattail bodywork. What most overlook is how rare and costly these halo cars truly were—Auburn reportedly lost money on every Speedster built, using the jaw-dropping design primarily as glamorous showroom bait to draw crowds in for their more affordable models during tough economic times. With total Auburn production collapsing to just a few thousand cars that year before the company shut its doors for good, the 867 Boattail Speedster remains an elegant, under-the-radar survivor of pure pre-war American glamour and daring style.
