🧠 Did you know?
In 1931, the final full year of production for Ford’s revolutionary Model A, this stylish and rugged successor to the Model T served as a Depression-era symbol of American resilience. It was powered by a proven 200.5-cubic-inch L-head four-cylinder engine producing 40 horsepower, capable of a top speed around 65 mph and comfortable cruising at 40–45 mph. Its three-speed manual transmission, four-wheel mechanical drum brakes, and hydraulic shock absorbers represented huge leaps forward from the Model T.While Ford had pioneered the use of laminated safety glass in the windshield as standard equipment at the Model A's launch in late 1927, the 1931 models continued this tradition alongside a gravity-feed fuel system and a dashboard-mounted fuel gauge. By 1931, Ford offered a vast array of over 20 body styles and sub-variants, including sporty roadsters, sleek coupes, practical Tudor and Fordor sedans, and versatile pickup trucks, all riding on a 103.5-inch wheelbase.Approximately 4.85 million Model As were built between 1927 and March 1932. A major milestone occurred on April 14, 1931, when Ford celebrated the production of its 20 millionth vehicle, a 1931 Model A Town Sedan. Priced affordably from about $430 to $640 for most standard models, these tough, simple machines proved incredibly durable. They are still driven enthusiastically today—easy to maintain, parts-abundant, and endlessly modifiable by hot rodders who value their straightforward charm and timeless design.
