Vehicle History
This 1951 Mercury Eight is a beautifully restored example of the early postwar Mercury, with its unmistakable long, low body lines finished in Black and complemented by wide whitewall tires and bright chrome. Under the hood is the correct 255ci Flathead V8 with Mercury 8CM heads and the correct carburetor, backed by a 3-Speed Manual transmission with Overdrive. Having spent time in a private collection and reportedly driven very few miles since its restoration, this Mercury has the presentation of a car that was restored to be appreciated rather than simply put back on the road.

Maintenance & Vehicle History
This Mercury was previously part of a private collection and had been owned by the previous owner since 2011. At the time of that purchase, the restoration had approximately 600 miles on it, and the car was primarily used for showing. It was previously located in Oklahoma before being acquired from the collection. The current odometer reads 90,328 miles, although actual mileage is unknown. The car is described as driving well with no known mechanical issues. The Black paint, chrome, interior and body are all reported to be in excellent condition. This Mercury is located in Brookings, South Dakota.
❤️ From the Seller:
“This is a 100% show-quality car. Look at that black paint. It's like you're standing there looking at me. The chrome is just as good. I didn't see anything that was really pitted, so it must have been all redone. The black on it is just extraordinary. I haven't seen a black car painted this nice in a long time. Nice and straight. Runs like a watch. It's got a 255 flathead V8 in it. The interior is perfect. It shows 90,328 miles on the odometer. I have no idea if that's correct or not. It has a 3-speed manual, but I mean, if you want probably one of the nicest Mercuries around, this probably is going to be it. It came out of a private collection. The estate sold it. I bought a group of them. Some of his cars went to a museum. They're just top-quality cars. It's got the wide whites on it. So, if you're looking for a '50s Mercury to show, I would hate to see anybody butcher it into a street car, but you could have a heck of a body to start with. This car is phenomenal. That's all I'm going to say.”
🧠 Did you know?
The 1951 Mercury Eight was the final year of Mercury’s first postwar body design before the completely restyled 1952 models arrived. A lesser-known fact is that 1951 was the first year Mercury offered the new “Merc-O-Matic” automatic transmission, giving buyers a three-speed automatic alternative to the standard three-speed manual. Power came from Mercury’s 255-cubic-inch Flathead V8, an enlarged version of Ford’s venerable flathead, producing approximately 110 horsepower. The Mercury Eight shared its basic architecture with Ford but rode on a longer wheelbase and featured distinctive Mercury styling, including a lower grille and more substantial body proportions. With its Flathead V8, smooth automatic option, and transitional styling, the 1951 Mercury Eight represents the end of an important chapter in Mercury’s postwar history.
